Michelle is an actor and writer who has contributed to the development of new Australian work at companies including Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, Griffin Theatre Company, Belvoir St Theatre, Bell Shakespeare, Black Swan Theatre Company and the Australian Film Television Radio School. She has been a Patrick White Award Finalist Judge (2021) and a Patrick White Award: Reader/assessor for the final shortlist (2020).
In television she has worked in development on projects such as Spooky Woo (Rhapsody Films – Alice Willison) and she has written and co-written episodes respectively on The Wonder Gang (ABC Me) and Born to Spy (Aquarius Films / ABC Me).
Michelle was an inaugural member of the CAAP Artist Lab 2020 – developed in partnership with Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir St Theatre, Griffin Theatre and the Australia China Institute for Arts and Culture. She will continue her engagement with the program in 2022. In 2018 she was also a participant in the CAAP / STC Directors Workshop.
Michelle’s play Where We Love is Home was directed by Jessica Arthur for Sydney Theatre Company’s Rough Draft program in 2022. Based on a true story and inspired by her own journey to find her biological mother the play sheds light on Korean Australian adoptees and the unique struggles they face in their quest for wholeness.
Michelle is a Griffin Theatre Studio Resident; enjoying a year-long residency with the company to develop a new work for live performance.
