Dan’s first produced play Grey Nomad, directed by Iain Sinclair for The Australian Theatre Company, had its world premiere at the Skylight Theatre in Los Angeles in September 2017.
The play was highly praised by critics and audiences and was Ovation recommended. Plans are currently underway to tour the US production in the UK as well as Australia. It was awarded Best Play (Local Production) in the 2017 Broadway World Los Angeles Awards.
Dan started writing for theatre in 2012 while living in Broome, Western Australia. His first play Bottomless was supported by Playwriting Australia through their outreach program. After returning to Melbourne the following year it won the R E Ross Trust Award with the support of Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre. After development with Red Stitch it was included in the Cybec Electric series at the MTC in February 2015. It was through this process that Dan’s collaboration with director Iain Sinclair began and he is attached to the 2018 production of Bottomless at 45 Downstairs in Melbourne. In 2015 Dan was a recipient of the Besen Family Artist Program through Malthouse Theatre involving a workshop process and play development led by Declan Greene and Mark Pritchard.
Dan is currently writing two new plays for Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre where he is writer in residence. He is also working on a Non-fiction Novel about his experiences writing a first play while trying to get sober in Broome. Dan has a background in stand-up comedy, spoken word and monologues.
