Ang is a writer originally from Newcastle, NSW. Her work has been seen on stages across Australia and she is a leading young writer and advocate in the climate crisis sphere.
In 2023, Ang’s regional rom-com Spewy premiered to critical acclaim and sold-out audiences at Newcastle’s New Annual festival, with support from Made New, the festival’s new work initiative. Ang was also commissioned in 2023 by Wagga Wagga Art Gallery and Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre to write and present a play about land use and the climate crisis called said han, which was performed in site-specific civic and farm settings around the Riverina in collaboration with Freeroam Theatre.
Ang was a 2022 Artist-in-Residence for Sydney’s Inner West Council. She was the inaugural Incubator Fellow for Create NSW and Griffin Theatre Company in 2020/2021, for which she developed her play Naturism, and she was a recipient of Create NSW’s Young Creative Leaders Fellowship in 2018/2019.
She has been shortlisted for a variety of prestigious playwriting awards, including the Griffin Award, the Phillip Parsons Award, MTC’s Next Stage residency and the Queensland Premier’s Drama Award. Her play MATE was awarded Highly Commended in the Max Afford Playwrights Award in 2018.
Ang’s debut play, Blueberry Play, was shortlisted for the 2017 Griffin Award and enjoyed a sold-out premiere season at Griffin Theatre Company’s Batch Festival, followed by a critically-acclaimed tour to the Old Fitz and The Blue Room Theatre in Perth, a second production in Tasmania and a third upcoming production at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle. Other recent playwriting credits include: for Bontom/Red Line Productions at the Old Fitz: Chorus; for Bondi Feast/Griffin Theatre Company’s Batch Festival/The Blue Room Theatre: You’ve Got Mail; for Meat Market Stables/Periscope Productions: Huge Indoor Plant Warehouse Sale, The Human Voice, Reigen.
Ang is co-writer of the Screen Australia-supported adult animated series Single (Creator: Tilly Robba) along with collaborator Michael Costi.
Ang is also a passionate advocate for climate justice and sustainable creative practice as a founding member of Sustainable Theatres Australia, Bump Out Sydney, as a performing member of science-game collective Boho Interactive and through her written work.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Languages) from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Fine Arts (Writing for Performance) from NIDA.
